Still don't know of anything in the 209.... but maybe SOMEbody does... so we can try to keep this thread alive by posting every so often.

And if y'all find anything going on, please do post it in this tribe so everyone can know.

Everything I hear about, including classes, are in the bay area, and I just can't afford to keep making the 2hr drive every weekend. ^_^
I really wish there were some classes around here because I want to get back into it.

There have got to be more people on this tribe from that area. There used to be a class up there, but that was close to 10 years ago. Don't know if it's still around. I'll keep my ear to the ground. I do know that there are classes in Sacramento, Fresno and Visalia. Still a drive for you in the 209. Maybe making a showing at the Cabi-Ribal event in Bakersfield in November and asking around then might be a good idea. Or even Rakkasah next spring.

I haven't found anything around here...they had classes in Tracy, but they stopped about 2 yrs ago. And there was actually someone in Manteca at one point, but that school lost their bellydance instructor last year.

Thanks for the ear and the suggestions. =)

Chris Wilde teaches in Turlock and has a troupe of about 15
            Heather is in Merced
            Both are very knowlegable teachers.
Chris is somewhat tribal, Heather is more Egyptian
Let me know if yu want more info for those areas.

I'm really looking for Tribal/ATS or tribal fusion, since that's the style I've been learning. I'm trying to avoid having to drive either to Sac or SF during the week since I work most days in Modesto or Tracy.

Yeah, that's pretty much my problem. I work in Modesto 4 days a week, commuting from Stockton. And even though I get home in enough time to change, grab a quick bite, and head up to Sac, it would be difficult for me to do so without burning myself (and my gas) out. When I was teaching it would have been easier, being so close to I-5 and all, but now it's more of a hassle. :( That's why I'm trying to find as many local teachers as possible.
Modesto would have been okay, but I would have had to wait around until 6pm....I get off at 4. :(

I think Shalalah (sp?) was starting to teach Tribal in Lodi, but I forgot where. Bad me.

I just want to dance, to flow, to move and feel good in my body. When I was dancing, I felt so good....about myself, about my body, spiritually, and it pains me to have stopped for almost a year :( especially when my teacher in SoCal said that she would "kick my ass" if I ever stopped dancing! I don't want a sore ass!

Okay, well there seems to be a LOT of cabaret in the area, but how about American Tribal Style or fusion? I know about UNMATA and Hot Pot, but recent changes to my schedule make it very hard for me to travel to Sac to study with them (I'd be coming from Modesto). Any tribal style or tribal fusion (or triberet) in the Modesto/Stockton area???

The only tribal and fusion I know of is somewhat more south here in Fresno. Lydia directs Tanjora Tribal Fusion. If you're interested at all, she's in this tribe. You could shoot her a message. If I hear of anything a bit more to the North, I'll post.

And anybody else that knows of anything, please do post. That's what this tribe is about... Helping people find, classes, teachers, venues to go watch dancing... let people know about upcoming workshops...

Funy this topic came back up as I am starting a class tonight:

As of now April of 2007 ( I know Trribe dates the posts, but my eyes glaze over them), there is myself, Jeannie, , Nara Aleyna, Yasmin and Aruba. Most of us are listed on Shira's Directory. AFAIK, everyone teaches some form of Cabaret.

    From North to South:

Nara is in Lodi at Hutchins Square on Thursdays
Jeannie is at Delta College on Th
I am in the Oak Park Ice Arena in Stockton
I know of no teachers currently in Manteca or Tracy
Aruba was at Modesto JC on Mondays
Yasmin is in Turlock, don't remember which night.
Haven't head of any teachers in the Oakdale area, either
The nearest Tribal teacher is Neshema (sp) in the foothills.

A couple of reastaurants in Modesto have dancing weekly, Skewers and Sahara.
That's all I know so far: I'm smake dad in the middle of things, and *I* have been having a hard time finding folk.

Thanks Mozelle, I wish I could come to your class tonight, but I have other obligations.

Sounds to me like there are quite a few teachers in the area! I studied Tribal for 6 months, so I'm not sure how well I'd fit in with cabaret, but I've seen some beautiful cabaret/egyptian dancers and I would like to learn.
